Getting started
What to expect
The unknown is often scarier than the thing itself. So here it all is.
Step by step
From booking to your first session
-
You book online
Pick a time on my actual calendar. Takes about two minutes, and you don't have to talk to anyone to do it.
-
Headway registration and insurance check
You'll enter your insurance details once. Headway verifies your benefits and shows you your exact co-pay before you confirm anything — no surprise bill later.
-
Intake paperwork
A short set of forms — contact details, some background on what brings you in, and the standard consent and privacy paperwork every therapy practice uses. None of it requires you to have things figured out yet.
-
Session one
Mostly me getting to know you: what brought you here, what you're hoping for, and any questions you have about how this works. You don't need an agenda. A full walkthrough of what to expect.
-
Sessions two to four
We start shaping what we're actually working toward together, based on what came up in the first session and what matters most to you.
-
Ongoing
We check in on how things are going and adjust pace as needed — more often early on, less often as things settle. When it's time to wrap up, we do that deliberately too, not just by one of us disappearing.
The therapy environment
Safe, warm, respectful
-
Safe
You set the pace here. Nothing is off the table, and nothing is required. What we talk about, and how much detail you go into, is always your call.
-
Warm
This isn't a clinical interrogation. I bring genuine curiosity and, where it fits, real humor — hard conversations don't have to be joyless ones.
-
Respectful
You're the expert on your own life. I bring training and an outside perspective, not a verdict on how you should be living it.
If it isn’t working
What happens if we’re not a fit
Not every therapist works for every person, and that's a normal thing to discover, not a failure on your part. If after a few sessions this doesn't feel right, you can say so, and we'll talk about it honestly — including helping you find a referral to someone who might be a better match. You're never locked in, and there's no pressure to keep going somewhere that isn't helping.
If you are struggling: reaching out for support can be one, small courageous step toward feeling more like yourself again.
Life can be tough, but you don't have to go it alone. Help is available.
