Online therapy in Kansas City

Licensed on the Missouri side of the metro — here's exactly what that means for you.

A quick clarification

Which side of the state line matters

Kansas City is unusual: it's one metro area split across two states, and therapy licensing follows the state line exactly. I'm licensed in Missouri, so I can see you if you're physically in Missouri during our sessions — Kansas City itself, Independence, Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, and the rest of the Missouri side. If you're on the Kansas side of the metro — Overland Park, Olathe, Shawnee — I'm not able to see you, even though it's the same city in every practical sense. That's not a preference of mine; it's how therapy licensing law works everywhere, not just here.

Getting seen

Waiting for care in Kansas City

Like most metro areas, Kansas City has real capacity but uneven access — a therapist might have an opening, but not one that matches your insurance or your schedule, and the search can stretch out for weeks before you find a fit. Meeting online widens that search instead of narrowing it: most people I work with get a first appointment within 1-2 weeks, with no drive across the metro required.

Local support

Crisis and community resources

If you need help right now, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available around the clock. See crisis resources for a fuller list, including region-specific lines.

If you are struggling: reaching out for support can be one, small courageous step toward feeling more like yourself again.

Life can be tough, but you don't have to go it alone. Help is available.
